THE RUBYS : The Rubys are; • LEE HUNTER : Vocals • BARRY KIRKWOOD : Rhythm Guitar • TAT SING KONG : Lead Guitar • MIKE HAMILTON : Bass Guitar • DAVE EARLAM : Drums • KEVIN BARRY - KEYBOARDS Formed in 2010 from the ashes of the “The Whiskey Flowers” and the lead singer of “The Sniper Pilots”, bass player Mike Hamilton was recruited to the fold following a short search.

The Rubys commenced rehearsals in early 2010 with a Lead Guitarist vacancy. Tat Sing Kong was one of a number of musicians that attended auditions; it was clear from the outset that Tat was a perfect fit for the band.

Tat declined an earlier offer to tour with “The Buzzcocks” to join The Rubys. Tats’ first gig with the band was as headline at a sell-out Audience at the legendary Manchester Academy.

More recently The Rubys recruited Kevin Barry on Keyboards. Kevin came from the dance band “Control” who had chart success in the 90’s. Kevin’s keyboard approach complemented the bands sound and was anatural fit to complete the line up of the The Rubys

The Rubys have always been consistently ahead of themselves as a live act over their recorded output.

Appearances at the inaugural FOMFEST and Collaboration Festival’s were included in a variety gigs in 2011.

Playing on the same bills as people like The Charlatans and The Buzzcocks underscored the credibility of The Rubys.

The Rubys. Further gigs delivered more notable performances; sell-out gigs at The Manchester Academy (twice), Jabez Clegg, Dry Bar, and Night & Day followed. Support slots alongside more established acts emboldened The Rubys to push further; The HMV Ritz with “The Rainband”, FAC251: The Factory with “Supajamma”, The Deaf Institute with Steve Pilgrim of the Paul Weller Band.

The Rubys built on their success in 2012, playing Future Perfect 3 Festival in May 2012 just one week prior to the launch of their debut album, "LIMELIGHT PARASITE”. Culminating in 2012 by supporting “The Rainband” at The HMV Ritz in December.

The Rubys committed to their progress through the self-financing of their first album. Recorded over four weeks at Vibe Studios – where New Order had recorded previously- The Rubys transferred their critically acclaimed songs to record.

The album was produced by Manchester legend Martin Coogan (from The Mock Turtles) and the prodigious new talent of Dean Glover.

The album proved to be a breakthrough in the US, garnering The Rubys first US #1 on Philadelphias’ SRRocks.com Countdown Chart with the track “After All”. The single would go on to record three weeks and two visits to the top.

Syndication of the show and significant social media chatter has introduced The Rubys to fans across the US. Today, The Rubys are regularly played on stations in Seattle, San Francisco, Sacremento, Los Angeles, and more.

The album continues to draw sustained radio play, both in the UK and the US, which brought the attention of the local Indie record label, Affinity Records.

The Rubys first recording for Affinty was the single "SHAKE YOU FREE", released in October 2012. The single repeated the trick of “After All”, spending a further three weeks at #1 and cementing The Rubys as a band with significant appeal to America.

• In England the band have had both Live and recorded appearances on BBC Introducing, North Manchester FM, AllFM, Manchester Radio Online, RedShift Radio, Salford City Radio and Beatwolf Radio have all helped build a strong live following to compliment a strong online presence.

• Bernie Overly at SR Rocks has been instrumental in the growth of the band in America. The Rubys have made a strong and heartfelt connection with the legendary Larry Rust of “Iron Butterfly”, and plan to work with Larry shortly. Online Publicist Beth Cregger continues to tirelessly promote The Rubys is one the true gems in our Team. We are eternally grateful to all the people who help us and make our dreams become reality.

The Rubys commenced the ‘Limelight Parasite Tour 2013” with a critically acclaimed show at Dry Bar, Manchester in January. Dates in London & Birmingham will follow, before finally playing the East Coast of the US to popular demand.

“The first gig of the Tour was a great reflection of the rhythm and esteem in which we hold our fans”. Dry Bar in our hometown, Manchester, was thick with snow and a temperature to freeze mercury. Rubys fans are a tough lot - they turned out in good numbers, from Manchester, Leicester, Nottingham, and more. Rubys fans are the true wealth of the Band. The venue was rocking, and afterwards, each member of The Rubys joined the fans in the bar to drink the night away. This is a Rubys tradition – and long may it continue to be so.

The Rubys released their third Single “Sell The Sun At Once” in June 2 2013. Which has already received commercial and critical success being played on many radio stations across the UK and US. This was enforced with the release of the video for song that is attracting the same interest.

The plans for the The Rubys include a further single release in October followed by a short tour in America. Watch this space!!
