In the beginning there was a guitar that sat in a house in a room in a built in wardrobe that gathered dust and caused arguments between the man and the woman that lived in the house.

Jacob loved that guitar even though he didn’t know it was a guitar.

Anthony liked to build things. He liked making things fit. He liked taking a grip of chaos and imposing order. He lived near the steelworks but knew they’d never make him wear blue overalls and spend his evenings getting the iron filings out of his hands.

A life of experiments and bad alchemy almost bankrupt Jacob of friends and influence but the guitar stayed with him somehow and led him through dark places towards the light.

Learning how to translate the garbled and confused into the beautiful and real helped Anthony to drive up and down the country playing drums and other people’s songs.

They grew up and became grown-ups and reluctantly put dreams of music and songs to one side and found beautiful wives and tended to children and pets and did work and jobs and careers to keep those wives and children and pets happy until their wives got sick of them whingeing about not having a friend to play their songs with and made them play together.

The rest is future history.
