The Dead Lovers - Rock/Blues Folk Rock Indie Live Act in Berlin

The Dead Lovers Short Info

The Dead Lovers sound is retro, sexy and provocative. It borrows from blues, rockabilly, folk, sixties beat and even seventies glam rock, but always remains convincing, fresh and utterly irresistible. They weave a canvas of melodic vocal harmonies over soundscapes ranging from dirty blues guitar stomps to tormented girl group ballads.
It wasn't only radio stations which fell in love with their music. They were also asked to contribute songs to large budget cinema films, and provide the title songs to three further TV shows. It appears their lush vintage sound fits perfectly to well shot cinematography.

The Dead Lovers are a small collective of musicians fronted by Lula and Wayne Jackson.

Wayne’s first band The Dostoyevskys achieved cult status in the mid 90s with their legendary live shows, before splitting after shortly after supporting Oasis. He released two solo albums and he co-wrote and sang “The Other Side” with Paul Van Dyk, which became a global hit. In between he picked up a Gold Disk producing probably Germany's only bond fide rock star Bela B.'s first two solo albums. He also played in Bela's band when they headlined at Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park.

Lula's track record is no less impressive or varied; working as a singer, a songwriter, a published photographer and more recently a TV presenter. The two have been great friends for many years and it was inevitable that sooner or later they would sling their creative hooks together and The Dead Lovers was born out of a shared love of old vinyl albums.

They continue the tradition of legendary musical raconteurs like Lee Hazlewood; and not just because they actually produced a song with the great man and with Lula being the last artist to sing a duet with him shortly before his untimely death.

"Supernormal Superstar" is an album you'd choose to be your backing track for a long drive through the desert in a '67 Ford Mustang.

Whoever is old enough to remember their first Velvet Underground experience or believes in the reincarnation of Amy Winehouse, this is the band for you.
……
The Dead Lovers have been tearing it up on stages across Europe for the last couple of years; earning a reputation for the energy of their live shows.

After recording their debut album "Supernormal Superstar" at the legendary Lost Ark Studio in San Diego (which houses a collection of vintage Americana instruments that would make Jack White turn green with envy), they returned to their chosen city of Berlin to release the album in summer 2014. Their first single "Special K" set the airwaves alight and after a large case of heavy rotation later, they set about trying to invigorate the club scene with their enigmatic performances. They were immediately hand picked to close the Record Store Week opening ceremony in Berlin. Soon after they were quickly signed up to headline at Berlin's premier radio station Radio 1's Parkfest event in front of five thousand people. More recently they headlined at Bremen's answer to the Berlinale to another full house. Wherever they play, they leave audiences thoroughly entertained.
They also played a host of support shows for US songstress Nicole Atkins and Madrugada's front man Sivert Hoyem. They supported Imelda May and The Baseballs.

Their album came out in the US last autumn and they collected a mass of play lists and chart positions on some of the most influential stations in the land and the reaction was astonishingly positive.
