Brothers Marshall Ward and Frant realised no one was going to record the music they wanted to hear. So, armed with the winnings from a local pop quiz they set out to the record the kind of music which seemed only to be found floating around in their heads; developing a sound which seemed worlds apart from the usual MTV focus group and boardroom inspired bands.
They finished their debut album – ‘London Paris Tokyo Space’ with legendary English producer Fran Ashcroft (Damon Albarn, Dandy Warhols).
The next step was to contribute two tracks to a Sell Out EP released on Bracken Records – one of the tracks ‘Wouldn’t You Rather Be A Winner’ got played a number of times on Radio 1’s Huw Stevens show -
“A track we should listen to before every show on Radio 1…Brilliant” Huw Stevens
Linking up with film director Hunter Weeks got their track ‘Come Home’ on adverts for Quiznos until finally they got their big break, signing to Sunset Records in New York. The company released the ‘London Paris Tokyo Space’ album, distributed by Geffen/Interscope in 2010.
“Listening to the album "London, Paris, Tokyo, Space" by @theboyfromspace - an angry British shibuya-kei lounge-punk sci-fi masterpiece.” – Gareth L Powell (Journalist and award winning Sci-Fi Writer).
2012 saw The Boy From Space get back into the live scene with new band member ‘Super Dave’ on keyboards and production. They finished recording their second album ‘I Was Cured Alright’ and filmed two videos in Brighton to help promote their album.
Finally 2014 saw one of their tracks “Our Shop’ from the London Paris Tokyo Space’ album appear on a Durex advert and with their ‘I Don’t Want To Go To Work’ EP and ‘I Was Cured Alright’ album due to be released on Nub Country Records, the future looks bright and exciting!
Fuelled by the incompatibility of Marshall Ward’s obsession with Japanese pop music, Frant’s love of classical music and Super Dave’s love of Gary Newman & The Human League, The Boy From Space have developed a unique sound and equally bizarre outlook on life.
“this is the music that everybody needs to have pumped into their brains so they can at least say they listened to something different once in their dull grey lives." Aled Jones – Glasswerk
