The Blackbirds History

The Blues Had a Baby and They Named It Rock and Roll (Muddy Waters)
Rock'n'Roll was the great aura of the youth movement of the 50s and 60s. Here the roots of the band "The Blackbirds" founded by Manfred Schmidt (born in 1945) and Rainer Buschmann (born in 1947) in Minden lie in 1962. The group owes its name to a fashion, as black cord jackets were then highly fashioned.

At that time, the formation of the region gained an impressive reputation in every well-known club in the region. They had regularly appearances in the "Bielefelder Starclub", a branch of the Hamburg original. As a starting point for established acts such as the Rattles, The Lords or King Size Taylor & the Dominos, they first presented their business cards.

Volker Wardeski, who later became a guitarist, was two years old in 1962, and for the first time he heard the sounds of Billy Vaughn (Sail Along Silvery Moon) from his father's musical rest.

Manfred Schmidt, is still a member and singer as well as a man of the first hour, who was active in the 1960s. His powerful voice continues to match his idols Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard and other influences from this period.

Volker Wardeski has been a permanent member since 1997. Volkers unique whipping sound of his existing electric guitars and amps promises genuine & original rock'n roll sound.

Manfred Heinze was, a Bass player in the Schaumburger band "TRUTH ABOUT TOMORROW and the Hamburg formation" No-Bizniz "(with performances in the legendary" ONKEL PÖ ") followed," Blue Dust "and the" Peter Kranz Blues Band " Manni Heinze, a man of the first hour, who was actively involved in the 1960s.

Conny Töws was born in 1971 (by this time the Blackbirds had disbanded for professional reasons). His experiences as drummers he later proved in bands such as "Double C", the "Heartbluesers" as well
At the Tina Turner cover band "Simply Turner".

From 1978, Volker Wardeski dared his first musical walks in various Minden bands.

At the beginning of the nineties the founding members Manfred Schmidt and Rainer Buschmann decided to make a new start. After re-recording in different formations from 1990 to today, the band once again gained a large fan base

In 1997 Rainer Buschmann convinced Volker Wardeski, then 37 years old and a member of the Mindener Band "Tune Pirates", to enter the band. There followed nationwide performances at city festivals, oldie festivals, open airs and live clubs.

Rainer Buschmann left the Blackbirds for health reasons in 2007, but is still loyal to them.

Manfred Heinze takes over the bass in late 2013 and since January 2016 Conny Töws sits at the drums.

A special highlight of the band's history: an invitation of the Rock'n Roll legend KING SIZE TAYLOR to play on the 50th anniversary of the Hamburg Star Club in April 2012.

KING SIZE Taylor had discovered a video of the band on YOU TUBE, and was so taken to get in touch with the band to Hamburg. In 2013, a year later, the band played again at the invitation of KS Taylor to the Tony Sheridan Memorial Concert in the legendary Hamburger Kaiserkeller.

What makes the Blackbirds special?

It is the passion and the love for the music of the post-war generation, which had to fight with difficulty the emancipation of its own. The Blackbirds show that Rock'n Roll, Rock and Beat may have originated in the USA and England, but we have quite understood this music direction in Germany with energy, playwitness and a great dose of enthusiasm on stage with everyone Performance again to life. These characteristics have always distinguished us through the years. Enthusiasm continues into old age. Who always give our best. We are self-sufficient, authentic and it never sounds like dance music. We play for you the blues, beat and rock'n roll!
