The Atavists are a surf/stoner rock band from the Czech Republic.

Founded in late 2014, The Atavists quickly established their place on the Czech music scene as one of the most prolific indie bands in the country, mainly due to their intense live performances. The unique sound is centered around singer/guitarist/primary songwriter Adam Krofian’s baritone voice and menacing guitar sound, backed by shrieking sound of an electric organ and a hard- hitting rhythm section. The group secured a place in the finals of the International Battle Of The Bands in Berlin. That was followed by a string of appearances at major Czech music festivals and also opening for the Norwegian band Kvelertak. The Atavists début album “Bad Times” was released at the beginning of 2016 to positive critical acclaim. Later that year, they opened for Biffy Clyro at a famous Czech venue Lucerna. The band’s second album “Lo-Fi Life” was released in March 2018. It was recorded by a veteran sound engineer Amak Golden (whose résumé includes bands like Killing Joke, The Damned, and many others) and received excellent reviews from both the press and the fans. In 2019 The Atavists won two Anděl Awards (Czech equivalent of the Grammys) - Best new act and Best Rock Album (for Lo-Fi Life). The lead single Wrong from their second album Lo-Fi Life also saw significant radio airplay and charted as no. 1 repeatedly in the charts of Evropa2 radio station (the most popular mainstream radio in CZ). In may 2019, The Atavists were chosen by the Muse’s management as the main support act for their Prague stop of Simulation Theory tour 2019 at Letnany airport. July 2019 saw the band supporting Skunk Anansie in Forum Karlin, Prague. Currently, the band appears to be in the spotlight of foreign promoters and is preparing to tour the countries of Central and Western Europe.
