Starting out somewhere between 2014 and 2016, Tella Viv was at first a group of friends in the suburbs of Stockholm engaged in several small musical projects. The group slowly morphed into one band, becoming Tella Viv. The band has stated their initial idea was simply to try emphasise music made by many minds rather than one.
By buying analogue synthesizers and renting an atelier outside the city, the group started creating avant garde surf scores reminding of a combination of Dick Dale, Television and Phoenix. Tella Viv’s first release was with the EP “From Coast 2 Coast” in 2015. The band got after that highlighted in international media such as Noisey and Vogue for their suggestive video work that always maintained one foot in the indie rock scene, and another in contemporary fashion. The latter is to small surprise, as singer Carl Hjelm at the same time embarked on a career as a full-time fashion model, musing for wide-known clothing brands such as Vivienne Westwood, Paul Smith and Loewe.
After a few escapades with various small releases and a growing reputation of their dynamic live performances in Sweden, Tella Viv returned in 2018, having just signed with independent label Bolero Records. The band’s sound has sprung into a more sophisticated style, with the release of various singles and live videos. The band’s new musical direction displays a broad range and raving ambition bringing rock to the 2020s.
