The Art Of Summarising Life | EP | 2017 |
Rather than preach the righteous path, Strauss opts to share the observations of “the everyday person”. Introspective, social commentary driven rhymes and a melodic flow reminiscent of the legendary Guru, make up the backbone of Strauss’ rap repertoire, while a blend of boom-bap driven, jazz fuelled cuts and loose mid-tempo beats, rooted in the essence of HipHop, give Strauss’ sound a seemingly nostalgic feel that harkens back to Hip Hop’s late 80’s.
The father of 3 looks to provide an alternative to much of the current narrative associated with HipHop. Referring to his music as an audiobook for his children, Strauss describes his son and daughters as a key influence to his artistry. Gracing the stage alongside acts like Wu-Tang Clan’s The Gza, Big Daddy Kane, Pharoahe Monch, Skinnyman, Klashnekoff, Micall Parknsun & Scrapz, among others, has helped establish Strauss as one of the Midlands’ emerging new talents.
Some of Strauss’ more notable performances to date have included I Luv Live (supporting Vianni), Soho music month (supporting Klashnekoff), Breaking Convention, Night of Festivals, Woodside Festival and Barefoot festival.
Strauss has been slowly growing a solid fanbase, with his freshman release in 2017, a 7 track EP titled ‘The Art Of Summarising Life’, receiving significant support from the local community, as well as airplay on BBC 1Xtra, BBC Radio Leicester, BBC introducing (DJ Target & Dean Jackson), FuBar Radio, Demon FM, EavaFM & Leicester Community Radio.
2019 saw Strizzy Strauss take a step back from the frontlines of the music scene to focus on family life, balancing bottle feeds, school runs and A 9-5 with studio time as he restlessly constructed his debut album.
2020 took a weird turn; for everyone. That didn’t stop the roll out of Strauss’ debut album though… launching a campaign of single releases back in March, Trust The Process was officially launched, July 2020 and has seen a welcome stream of support from fans, radio and online media outlets. The album has received attention from Complex UK, Wordplay Mag, Trench, Mixtape Madness & I Am Hip Hop Mag and airplay on BBC 1Xtra, BBC Introducing as well as a regular feature on Webby award
winner, Mylo The Cat’s ‘Indie Artist Showcase’.
Here’s what some people have to say about Strizzy Strauss;
“Another one of Leicester’s voices deserving of higher exposure.”
Kieron Sullivan
UKHH.com
“Trust the Process is a triumphant breakthrough; its greatest success is its embrace of
imperfection, harnessing the freestyle attitude of the 80’s that seems to have gone
missing over time.”
Joel L-S
I Am Hip Hop Magazine
"Honestly, I can set some of the deepest literature for them to discover the sinister ways
of power and inequality, but your tracks do it in 4 mins, it’s amazing."
Dr. Matthew Allen
Lecturer in Economic Anthropology (Leicester University)
"Strauss delivers cold wordplay ultimately posing as one to watch out for.”
Elle Evans
Mixtape Madness
" Often, the relatability in his lyrics hit hard, establishing a truly emotional listening
experience.”
