Spares are a provocative proto-punk band from Liverpool, with a dress sense that mirrors their talent for bratty pop melodies; both slick and outrageous.

Now aged 19, the band met at Catholic school which they described as 'not a place that aided creativity, but your creative side would start to show immediately if you were part of a select few that could see life outside of “lad behaviour”'. It was a rebellion to the way things around them were that founded the philosophy of the band.

On forming the band James the guitarist says 'We were a band based on pure feeling – we did what we wanted when we felt like doing it, and after we did it, we didn’t regret it or care what anyone thought. This ethos is at the core of the band: Do what you want, When you want, How you want. There is no point in wasting away.'

Winter 2015 has seen the band play a series of residencies at the legendary Zanzibar in Liverpool, before a January headline. The band has been steadily releasing new tracks to soundcloud with 'Not Enough', 'I Like it' and 'Ciggy Stump' building the blog love and wider awareness of the band.

2016 will see the band releasing 'Spares Bedroom EP' - a collection of proto-punk recordings made on an iPhone along with some bizarre self-directed lyric videos by the band.

‘[Spares] take the pop smarts of the Fab Four and injects the energy and the exuberance of the Hives to create a song that'll blow the winter blues away better than storm Abigail.’
The Devil makes the best Tuna

‘Hysteria on top of utter chaos, with gut bursting riffs and choruses’
Velvet Independent

‘Frantic, bristling slab of proto-punk with massive choruses.’
Mad Mackerel

'Filled with crashing percussion and jangly basslines, its high strung youthful vigour explodes with an unrivalled edge as you're carried forth towards its infectious guitar riffs and singalong vocals.'
