Take the studio trickery and electronic experimentations of artists such as Four Tet and Flying Lotus and merge it with the dynamics of a live band and you have SPACENOID.

The three-piece project from Brighton use the sample-based approach of modern DJ/ electro culture and then morph it into an exciting, visceral live experience.

The seeds of the project began way back in 2007 when multi-instrumentalist Max Numajiri would create hours of home recordings with many layers of instrumentation and sounds. Realising that in order to take these compositions to a live format would require an unfeasibly large number of musicians to replicate the numerous melodies and parts he decided that a new approach was needed. Coinciding with his newly discovered appreciation of electronic music and bands such as Battles who used technology to create a sound larger than their small ensemble would normally be able to make, the decision was made to merge these ideas into a new project. Using polyrythms and live looping of instruments meant that compositions could be sonically dense and interesting without having to have a mini orchestra on stage.
Having been through a number of tentative line-ups, the current band was set. The group solidified their new sound with a glut of live shows including - as their debut - a gig at the prestigious former Shunt Lounge vaults beneath London Bridge. Experiencing Spacenoid as a live entity has to been seen (and heard!) to be believed - the cinematic scope of the sound is so gargantuan it is almost impossible to accept that it is being created and played in front of you by three people. The band's virtuoso musicianship and energetic performances also transcend the boundaries that other electronic acts have often been hampered by in the past. "We were discussing how boring it can be to watch some electronic acts on stage because of the lack of movement and live sound despite the fact that what is coming out of the speakers is exciting and interesting" says Max. "This is why we are happy to have a basis in electronics but with the addition of live instrumentation we now have more freedom and wider boundaries to explore and compose within."

Spacenoid are currently working on their début album, having recently put out a live-in-the-studio ep and accompanying videos available to download now for free via bandcamp.
