Matt Stang’s left-handed-six-string juggernaut deploys a wall of sound rarely heard from a single guitar… Dirty overdriven lead lines to raise the neck hairs combine with smooth, chorus-laden riffs creating a wash of colourful sounds, a wash so fine it allows Russell’s full and rich vocal to soar over the top. His sweet pipes are consistently likened to Jim Morrison and Eddie Vedder to name a few.
Thunderous tones catapulted by Nick Wainwright’s bass are not seen as an accompaniment to the sound, more the heavily distorted riffs entwine with guitar licks giving his weapon of choice a more lead-like instrument feel. The rhythm section would not be complete without the obligatory sticks-man, but as most drummers are seen as a drag- a necessity rather than an intricate inclusion- Gareth Eaton is the exception to this unspoken rule. From the uptempo tom-fuelled destruction in the song “Lonesome Man” to the intricate and skilled pattern of “Waiting Game” he truly is a stick-wielding machine.
In early 2013 the band were took under the wing of Joe Moskow (Reverend and the Makers, Riders) recording their demo EP at Paradise Studios, Sheffield. The result, “The Paradise Sessions”, contains five tracks recorded in a live environment to give the raw edge their music craves. The EP is available to stream at www.sonsofdv.bandcamp.com.
