When it comes to family, many of us keep things close to our chests. But rather than keeping his kin hidden in a old dusty photo album, Songs For Walter’s Laurie Hulme is more likely to be found making a song about them. In particular his late grandfather Walter.

After releasing his first single “Merry Go Round” on The Drum’s Holiday records imprint, Laurie completed his first EP Meet Me At The Empire which was released by Red Deer Club (UK) and Bleeding Gold (US.) Numerous features on blogs and magazines ensued This was accompanied by national radio airplay on BBC6music from DJs Jarvis Cocker, Tom Ravenscroft ,Steve Lamacq and Tom Robinson. Songs For Walter evolved into a full live ensemble with accompanying musicians and played shows around the UK supporting bands such as Ghost Poet, Slow Club, Cloud Control and Big Deal.
Throughout 2013 Songs For Walter released a series of free to download singles gaining further BBC radio airplay this time from Radcliffe and Maconie on BBC Radio2 as well as receiving Lauren Laverne’s ‘MPFree’ track of the day three times. The song “Tougher Than A soldier’s Boots” saw SFW long listed for Glastonbury festival emerging talent competition.

These are songs that people can relate to - meticulously gentle all the while spanning generations through unpolished reflections of the past, present and future.

He has just finished his long awaited debut album due out Summer 2015.

Songs For Walter reminds us that essentially, life is sweet; but not your bog-standard Werther’s Original.
