Influenced by the diversity and textures of contemporary Brazilian music his music is a fusion of traditional Brazilian folk and haunting melodies that speak of the vivacity and complexity of contemporary living.
Cruz’s debut E.P “Do Outro Lado” (“On the Other Side”) explores the pain and nostalgia of leaving your country alongside the excitement of experiencing new cultures, languages, people and ideas. This idea is further amplified in the E.P by the consistent use of Portuguese. Despite being well-integrated into the Irish music scene, Cruz has yet to release a single in English “For me, to be true, is to write in Portuguese” and if anything it seems that this factor, rather than excluding fans, draws people together “in the world of the immigrant, difference is everywhere, it’s not about trying to conform it’s about kicking back and saying let’s celebrate what makes us unique.”
“Do Outro Lado” features rustic guitar riffs, exotically eclectic percussion alongside some bittersweet cello melodies and robust bass lines. The uniqueness of Cruz’s music lies not just in his ability to capture the sentiments of a nation of immigrants but in his fusion of rhythms and the diversity of the sounds he explores in this E.P.
