SIDEWAY SPIRAL hails from the fool-ridden streets of Cologne, Germany, and consists of a bunch of cheerfully crazy music lovers with rather different tastes and preferences.

As such, the musical influences of the band range from 1960s psychedelic Rock to early 1970s Metal to Punk, Grunge, Stoner Rock, Doom, all sorts of Post-musics, and whatever the hell you wanna call Frank Zappa. The band members however, as these things usually go, don’t really agree on any sort of specific description of the sound. The closest thing they got was: „SIDEWAY SPIRAL fuses the dusty and pychedelic grooves of Desert Rock with the urban, edgy sensibilities of Grunge and Punk“, and then immediately rejected this monstrosity of a sentence, because it sounds like it was written by some marketing guy in his forties. But there’s your quote if you’re lazy.

Most of the lyrics reflect subcultural life in the city in a number of ways, given a certain cryptic spin due to Sid’s fondness for (or obsession with) writing lyrics at shows, festivals or bars, and also mostly when drunk. Topics thus include trips gone bad, trips gone well, trips through the streets and trips to festivals, but also city life, city dust, city bars and city trips.
