The five members met while studying in Newcastle Upon Tyne. With a united desire to create something that would stand apart from everything else, the band recorded a handful of demos in early 2011. These Demos serendipitously found their way into the hands of Grammy award winning mix engineer/producer Adrian Bushby (Foo Fighters, Two Door Cinema Club, Muse) and after Bushby mixed two of the demos they received airplay on BBC Radio 1 from Zane Lowe, Fearne Cotton and Hew Stevens. And all of this within a few months of forming. The performance shields give is characterised by their unmatched bright and colourful energy. The music they write is powerful and dynamic, consisting of layers of harmony and pounding rhythms.
The band continued to write and play to bigger and bigger crowds culminating in Autumn 2012 with the release of the self produced Kaleidoscope EP. The lead track ‘Mezzanine’ was iTunes single of the week in the UK and Netherlands receiving over 70,000 downloads in the UK alone, as well as being Spotify single of the week.
Since forming, Shields have played all over the UK and Europe including Sheperds Bush Empire, o2 Arena, Paradiso, Melt! Festival and Reeperbahn festival playing alongside the likes of Bastille, Everything Everything, Placebo, Walk the Moon, Neon Indian, Alt J and Crystal Fighters.
Recent performances at the Cluny 2 and BBC6 music festival have generated a huge amount of buzz and anticipation for the forthcoming release of debut album "How Can We Fix This?". Shields have been busy writing and recording throughout 2014 and has once again seen the band reuniting with Adrian Bushby to mix the album. "How Can We Fix This?" is set to be released later in 2015.
