Her eclectic and infectious music, full of bold hooks and barefaced emotions, is all the better for it.
You’ve heard of artists getting it together in the country? The country where Scarlette Fever did that was the USA. In particular, Los Angeles, where on repeat visits over the last year and more, she’s worked with extraordinary musicians and producers, charmed countless industry executives and played at the Hard Rock Café in Hollywood and the legendary Viper Room on Sunset Strip.
Since then she’s had her head down in the studio, writing and recording the new album, whilst still finding the time to play several packed London shows, finessing her live set up at the likes of North London’s St Pancras Old Church and Camden’s Colonel Fawcett, the legendary Soho venue The Borderline and Islington’s O2 Academy2. She’s also released a 4-track remix EP, 'Return of the Fever', plus a stunning cover of the Erasure classic 'A Little Respect', put out to celebrate the legalisation of same-sex marriages – a momentous occasion close to Scarlette’s heart. But now it’s back to her own material and the first taster from the new album, 'Helena', the title track from the upcoming EP, out late 2014.
Co-produced by Paul Simm, who co-wrote six tracks on Neneh Cherry's recent album and has also worked with Amy Winehouse, Groove Armada, Tom Jones and Massive Attack, 'Helena' is a huge leap forward in sound and song writing for Scarlette, and marks the beginning of an exciting new collaborative chapter for the acclaimed singer songwriter. “It is definitely a new direction but that hasn't been a conscious decision,” says Scarlette. “It's just where I am and what's ringing my bell musically.” And the song’s meaning? “It’s about falling madly in love, madly in lust and everything in between. About finally understanding what all the fuss that Shakespeare made was about.”
Elsewhere on the EP are three other new songs, the stunning, previously unreleased 'Piece Me Back Together' and two live favourites, '6ft Woman' and 'P.S. I Hate You', all of which offer an enticing aperitif for the brilliantly-titled 'Attack Of The 6ft Woman', the forthcoming sequel to her 2011 album debut 'Medication Time'.
Now all eyes are on her official new single, 'Helena' whilst Scarlette puts the finishing touches to long awaited second album, 'Attack Of The 6ft Woman', due out later this year. It’s going to be worth the wait, and promises to be the most enjoyable musical ambush you’ve ever experienced…
