I'm James.
I have three different types of sets which I choose from for each performance. Most recently I've been spending a day or so at the performance location recording environmental sound, which is then processed live to pull out tones, harmonies and rhythms. It comes out sounding a bit like my Wessenden Suite album (http://bit.ly/1Hv5vwA). The show has been really successful - I sold out Cafe Oto in January, and have earnt PRSF funding from the new performance practices developed. It sounds nerdy, but it's actually really enjoyable!
The second type of set is an improvised instrumental/vocal set, using looping to create textures with guitar/mandolin/zither/voice/electronics - it comes out more like my version of Steve Reich's "Music For 18 Musicians" (http://bit.ly/1G9SnJi).
The third is a more laptop-based set allowing me to perform songs from my albums (like http://bit.ly/1EunYdG and http://bit.ly/10uXdfb) - this is the most vibey thing.
