Roelle Blue brings together three elements to create what is something of an unforgettable phenomenon.
Firstly, hers is "the voice of an Angel*, to quote almost every commenting listener, a voice that is unmistakably Celtic yet shows the audacity and strength of a great female blues or jazz singer. With controlled vibrato that hits the upper ranges with apparent ease and poise, yet exposes an emotional honesty enhanced by powerful, careful writing of word and melody.
Often she is compared to the great 60s singers like Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell, but her own personal muse is Laura Marling. Quite able to outsing her muse, however, she shows a range of sturdy influences and compliments the diversity of her original music and unique take on covers.
Then there is her quality as a lyricist. With a knack for avoiding cliché, of inviting delicious paradox or universal dilemma, taboo or questioning to her own outspoken perspective, with refreshingly unexpected twists and a language that is both imaginative yet accessible to listeners, she is a writer in her own sense. With r
unrelenting bluntness, subtle and enlightening wit, each song asserts its relevance with an intimate whisper to the cultural ear.
And finally to top it off. Roelle Blue, after years of wandering Europe with guitar not just slung over back, but actually in her hands being played and retuned every step of the way, shr demonstrates a keen sense of how to meld music with thought, to create a musical storytelling that is often not just accompanied by a simple strum, but a well-crafted, classical guitar piece.

All of this seemingly un-modest narrative can be said only in third person, I suppose, but I invite you to hear what I mean and to hear that I mean what I write here above. My

Thank you and kindest regards

Roelle Blue ( Kirsty Heggie)
