QUARTETOUKAN Short Info

QUARTETOUKAN is a new musical project that brings together cultures and peoples through songs and melodies. The show combines East and West, bringing together a rare encounter between Fairuz, Bialik, and Leah Goldberg; as well as Flamenco, Klezmer and Arabic folk music.
The outstanding arrangements were especially written for QUARTETOUKAN. The project grew out of a collaboration among four musicians of various cultures, joining together in one fascinating show during which the listener passes through a type of musical journey that mirrors the multicultural Israeli society of today. From this journey stems a cultural richness ‒ a basis for listening, for dialogue, and for human harmony.
Miriam Toukan ‒ Vocals. She made her successful debut on a television program similar to "American Idol". With her gorgeous rich voice and her broad repertoire, her singing brings people together and crosses musical and cultural borders. Miriam collaborates with many artists in Israel and abroad. Idan Toledano – Oud, Flamenco guitar, Accordion. An arranger, composer, and multi-instrumental artist, Idan specializes in the flamenco guitar of Spain. For many years he has been involved with activities where music serves as a bridge between cultures. He conducts the Youth Choir "Voices of Peace" of the Arab-Jewish Community Center in Jaffa, and performs in Israel and abroad.
Dr. Racheli Galay ‒ Cello. Dr. Galay is an international cellist who performs as soloist, conductor and chamber musician. Racheli combines in her programs works from the Baroque to the Modern, along with Jewish music and improvisation. She has performed as soloist with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, Lublin; Szolnok Symphony ( Hungary), Chamber of Rosario (Argentina) and others.
Noa Vax – Percussion artist. Noa specializes in playing and teaching Middle Eastern percussion. Creator of the project "Granny Memi", which combines art videos of her grandmother singing in Ladino together with music influenced by the culture of South India, Noa is a member of "Istiklal Trio" (which performs Turkish music) and the ethno-jazz group "Kdolha". She performs in Israel and abroad.
QUARTETOUKAN has performed in a special Jewish-Arab brotherhood concert held at Jaffa Port and produced by Radio 88FM; on the program "Mima'amakim" [From Depths] broadcasted on Israeli radio and TV; at the International Oud Festival in Jerusalem 2013; and won a Prize on the International Jewish Music Festival in Amsterdam 2014.
The Quartet's first album QUARTETOUKAN – A Crossroad of Cultures was released in June 2013
