Everything you hear is 100% improvised.
Pleistocene Megafauna is made up of Scott Wyllie and Matt Dear, two musicians with extensive experience of live performance and composition in more traditional band setups in collaboration along with Sophie Wyllie, visual artist. With this project they seek to return to a more primordial state of creativity through improvisation while augmenting creative disciplines and telling stories through sound and thought, taking the audience on a sonic and spiritual journey, blurring the lines between participant and observer.
This is presented through live musical sound design, combined with synergistic visuals projected onto the players, and incorporating samples from popular culture and their own field recordings and interviews. Where possible, they prefer to perform in surround sound. By performing sets of several hours, they invite their audience to share in their headspace, and take part in the musical narrative themselves.
"Our sets typically last 2-3 hours, tending to start with an immersive ambience, preparing our sounds and the audience. As the set develops we take inspiration from a multitude of genres, including Techno, Ambient, Drum and Bass, Dub, Psytrance and IDM. Our intention is Immersive, Transcendent Dance Music."
