“emotional to the very core but not a single tear too many…this group made a huge impact at the International Gypsy Festival this year” (De Volkskrant, Holland 2005)

Parne Gadje frontman and bandoneon virtuoso Marc Constandse met with his calling 25 years ago while working in a travelling circus. He was playing percussion in the circus band when one of his colleagues handed him a battered old cassette of a Romanian gypsy ensemble, changing his outlook on music forever.
That old tape triggered a quest for the obscure and beautiful that would lead Constandse to artists such as the Russian troubadour Alexej Dimitrievitch, the great Romanian vocalist Maria Tanase and the Greek composer Manos Hadjidakis. It would also introduce him to the Rebetiko music of the Greek underworld and Rroma music in all its ornate forms. His bandoneon seemed tailor-made for all this and ihe was amazed to find that the instrument was seldom used in Balkan styles. He has since developed a way of playing so unique and enchanting that when you hear his sound you have to wonder what country it comes from. The answer he will give you is that it comes from the country of the heart.
Parne Gadje was formed in 2001 after Constandse had put in years ‘doing the streets’, playing at weddings and running solo theatre productions. What separates Parne Gadje from the rest is the depth of emotion in their playing. Another thing setting them apart is their imaginative use of instrumentation. Woodwind player Gerwil Kusters regularly injects a dervish feel into the music with his use of Arabic scales and instruments such as the duduk. Youngster Jorick Bronius puts subtle and nonsubtle live electronic paths into the groupsound, mindblowing! All this has resulted in a sound that is as distinctive as it is original.
The group has released 6 albums, all of which have received outstanding critics, and their live reputation is phenomenal . Major performances have included the International Gypsy Festival in the Netherlands, La Nuit De Zigane in Paradiso, Amsterdam, the Crossing Border Festival, Into The Great Wide Open and the Oerol Festival, Netherlands. Parne Gadje performed in Amsterdam, Berlin, Munich, Vienna, Paris, Moscow
France, Belgium, Switzerland and more... Parne Gadje are quietly earning the reputation as one of the most innovative and exciting folk groups around.
