Parc X trio, a Montreal-based instrumental jazz trio, winners of the TD Grand Prize for Jazz at Montréal International Jazz Festival in 2010, is composed of Gabriel Vinuela-Pelletier (piano and compositions), Alex Lefaivre (bass and compositions) and Alain Bourgeois (drums). Gabriel and Alex met while studying at University of Montreal. Within a year, they became close friends as well as neighbors in an old duplex in Parc Extension, Montreal’s most multicultural borough. Alex brought his drum kit kit and Fender Rhodes piano into the basement and that building became their local hub for playing, practicing and writing music 24/7. When it came time to chose a name for the band, the two young men decided to pay homage to their home base.

The trio’s current drummer, Al Bourgeois, is a Montreal transplant from Muncton, New Brunswick. His first tour of duty with the group dates back from 2010 when he toured Mexico with the band. He is the perfect foil for Gabriel and Alex and rounds out the trio nicely.

Parc X trio have toured across Canada, the USA, Mexico and Europe. They are known for their high energy live performances as well as their charisma on stage. The group has released it’s 5th record, PXT live in NYC. The album was recorded and filmed live at ShapeShifter Lab in Brooklyn. The sound is raw with no overdubs or edits and reflects Parc X trio’s refined passion and stunning musicality. The originally acoustic based trio dives full force into the electric rock world. A wealth of influences ranging from bebop, indie-rock, EDM, hip-hop and industrial metal are blended together fluidly by the three virtuoso musicians. Their love of melodic hooks and catchy rhythms are deeply explored in their own compositions and their ability to think together as one unit could be considered almost telepathic. Parc X trio has found its own unique voice in the contemporary jazz world with a sound heavily influenced by rock, urban beats and pop style melodies.
