Nosoyo - Pop Alternative Pop Indiepop Pop Electro Live Act in Berlin

Nosoyo Short Info

The band NOSOYO are Daim de Rijke and Donata Kamarz.
(no soy yo - from the Spanish “I am not myself”)
This pop duo jumped out of the indie road movie we like to imagine our lives as, a movie for which they wrote and still write the soundtrack to. Intense and casual at the same time, with a distinctly European coolness that hints at their geographical touchpoints of Amsterdam, Bonn, Berlin and Istanbul.

Their sound? Influenced as they are by a wide spectrum of music from Nina Simone to Sia, their sound shifts from delicately bouncy indie pop hymns to hypnotic electro folk with heavy synth basslines and layered vocals - and always catchy as hell.

Donata and Daim found each other in Amsterdam, and shortly after joining musical forces they put everything in a car and relocated to Berlin, where they immediately set themselves to work to make their first album or, let's say, the soundtrack to their next year: Songs they describe as mantras that they sing to themselves to maintain the right mindset, to keep going when things do not go as smoothly as hoped or when expectations start to turn into pressure.

Let's embrace every single cloud
Covering our hearts with doubt
We are stronger than our timid minds
This is just another hill to climb

Their first year in Berlin was this: Landing in a capital city, knowing few people, slowly finding your way around, connecting the dots; a slight sense of dislocation, fears and hopes intertwined with an unshakeable optimism that is the backbone of this duo.

Donata: “I’m a troublemaker. I float around and constantly come up with crazy and unrealistic ideas that left to myself I might not carry out; Daim takes the ideas and jumps on them: injects a whole new level of randomness, spontaneity, imagination into it.”

Which seems to be the dynamic they have developed for writing songs too; Donata often begins sketching an idea on acoustic guitar, and Daim takes it and twists it around and pulls it apart and puts it back together again in ways that Donata wouldn’t have imagined. Then they both sit down together again to make it what it will finally be.

They've called their album Resonate. Why? Because everything we do has a consquence. Daim explains: "The air you move when you get up or when you drive a car...when you think something or say something, there's change. And when there's change, there's movement, and when there's movement then there's resonance."

It’s an album that took them two and a half years to finish. With a slow swell of attention from both public and the industry, they’ve been called out to support numerous artists like Lola Marsh, Aurora, The Dø and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. They’ve also appeared on radio, TV and print, both in Holland and Germany, as well as taking part in various online media experiences.

And as they are putting together the soundtrack to our lives, they are becoming the pinup poster children that we imagine them to be. They’re into fashion - fashion as plaything, fashion as distraction, fashion as costume. Which is probably how they ended up being featured in the Dutch issues of Elle and Vogue, and how they came to have their look for the album photoshoot with clothing provided by the exclusive French clothing brand The Kooples.

And they managed to snag one of Germany’s great producers, Patrik Majer, to not only produce and mix their work but also to put them on his new label Freudenhaus Recordings.
Patrik Majer is of course a greatly experienced producer whose production work with Wir Sind Helden won him an Echo as Best Producer.

As soon as NOSOYO finished their album, they decided - instead of putting their feet up - to shoot off to LA, where they met people, explored the scene and shot a music video.
That video and the album 'Resonate' will be released on the 17th of February.
