Monocluster’s eponymous debut starts out with a nice, Heavy Psych interlude, making way for a riff that clearly means business. The singer reminds me of Bobby Liebling doing a Bon Scott impersonation. The sharp, tight riffs remind me of the heavier side of nineties grunge.

Mind melting Heavy Psych with clusters of Doomy riffs and a mesmerizing groove. The songs are structured as songs were then, everything assembled around the riff. I love that. The progressive interludes breaking into intense riffs with interesting tempo changes, chord progressions, and passionate vocals fueling psychedelic jams are a recipe for repeated plays.

I liked this so much, in fact, that at first I didn’t even notice the vocals are entirely in German. The doomy, riff-laden, psychedelic songs are a universal language understood by stoners everywhere. For all you real old schoolers out there, Monocluster sounds like Pentagram meets Hawkwind. To the youngsters among us, think Soundgarden meets Oresund Space Collective. This is an album that will require multiple listens to fully appreciate, yet interesting enough to grab your attention right away.
