MikMâäk Short Info

MikMâäk: The Big Band

Mâäk aka Mâäk’s Spirit is a Belgian avant-gardist jazz collective.
This collective of five top musicians is very creative and has several different projects, going from world music (fusion of jazz and Tunesian songs) to electronics mixed with contemporary dance.

Besides a bunch of other projects (www.maaksspirit.be), we now started an exciting new one, which is a slightly peculiar big band, named MikMâäk.
The band has an incredible line-up of 16 excellent, well-known jazz musicians and the music is a mix of improvisation and compositions, the latter written by different musicians of the band. The creation of this project started in 2014 in Recyclart Art Center (Brussels), a very famous venue in the Belgian music scene. The monthly open rehearsals there have been a great success with a big, enthusiastic audience. In Summer 2014, the band played in two renowned festivals, Gaume Jazz Festival and Jazz Middelheim. During seasons 2014-2015 and 2015-2016, MikMâäk is the house band of Théâtre Marni, playing every month and a half/two months. 2016 will be the year of European tour for MikMâäk.
