MICROSCOPIC - Jazz Acoustic Live Act in Manchester

MICROSCOPIC Short Info

Microscopic is an acoustic quartet performing music written by Flugel Horn player Richard Iles.

Their music features simple melodies creating platforms for intimate group improvisation that gently draw the listener in rather than grasping their attention.

‘...the highlight of the 2012 festival' said Steve Mead, artistic director of the Manchester Jazz Festival describing their premier performance. In 2013 Microscopic were selected to become ambassador artists for Jazz North on the Northern Line artist roster.

The intimate music of Microscopic came about through a 20 year musical association between Richard Iles and pianist Les Chisnall along with the experience and unique talents of Birmingham-based Mike Williams and Percy Pursglove.

The name Microscopic came about as a consequence of Richard having a 12 piece Brass Jazz Ensemble called the Miniature Brass Emporium featuring Mike Walker and Iain Ballamy. Richard decided to form an even smaller band to feature some of the material from the Brass Emporium but in a microscopic setting!.
