Mayberian Sanskülotts has grown out of an acoustic duo that captured the lonely summers echoing through the Socialist Housing Blox of Káposztásmegyer to one of the most defining bands of today’s Hungarian underground scene.

The founding members, Gallusz Balogh and Zita Csordás, attribute their first ever concert in 2010 to simple serendipity. Their early songs recalled the 1980s Hungarian underground, and were captured on crackling cassette tape which transmitted the magical and sometimes all-encompassing sufferings and sadness of late adolescence. The band’s number of members and breadth of soundscapes grew as the years went by, expanding their private dreamworlds towards shoegaze and dreampop. Now featuring six members, their music has slowly been stripped of its suburban angst and deepened its relationship with the synth and drum sounds of the pre-2000s era. In 2019, they released their full-length album ’Neverending Sorry’, which brought success both in Hungary and abroad; they took the stage at Hungary’s iconic Sziget Festival, as well as the Waves Vienna Showcase Festival, the Primavera Festival in Barcelona and many others. In 2022, they led up the release of their new LP, ’God Tiger Need Chemical Works’, with a tour in Germany. The new LP’s songs hit the listener like an ice cold waterfall, dragging them along into a deepened and matured Mayberian world. Having its official premier at the Palace of Arts in Budapest, the album presents as an ode to a secret love affair between coldwave, goth and R’n’B. The ten-track album has further elevated the band to the ranks of the most open-minded and experimental Hungarian productions to date.
