Helen Marnie (known as Marnie for solo projects) is the lead vocalist and one of the keyboard players and songwriters in electronic band Ladytron.

She began her solo career in 2012, releasing her debut album Crystal World the following year.
Born in Glasgow, Helen studied in Liverpool before joining Ladytron in 1999, alongside Daniel Hunt, Reuben Wu and Mira Aroyo. The group found widespread international success with singles such as Playgirl, Seventeen, Destroy Everything You Touch, Ghosts and Ace of Hz, and released five albums between 2001 and 2011: 604, Light & Magic, Witching Hour, Velocifero and Gravity the Seducer.
Recorded in Reykjavik, with production by Dan Hunt, the first Marnie solo album offered ten original songs written while Ladytron are on hiatus. Like Iceland itself Crystal World evokes the collision of two spheres, and drew praise from Pitchfork as "witchier and mythier" than previous outings. "I knew I wanted it to be quite pop and song based," Helen explains. "I also wanted it to be more personal and emotive, which I hope comes across. It's not a dance album. Parts of it are serene and beautiful, others are dark. It's like a landscape that changes over time."
Pulsing lead track The Hunter was released as a single, with remixes by Roman Nose, Mark Reeder and Stephen Morris (Joy Division/New Order) subsequently issued on limited 12" for Record Store Day in 2014. During 2014 Helen began working with Jonny Scott of Strike the Colours and The Kills, and made her live debut in Glasgow in December.
Wolves, a brand new song, will be released as a 7" single in April 2015. An electro ballad produced by Jonny, Wolves is a fierce cry against the Establishment, softened and soothed by Helen's pristine vocals. "The song reflects the sea of change that is people power," she says. "Where there is power, there is resistance."
A quartet for live shows, Marnie performed a string of dates around Europe during 2015. A second album is currently being written for release in 2016.
