In November 2017, the band Marek Dusil Blend decided to record a new album; the project grew to include three adapted older songs.

The album “Karlsbad” was put together without the help of a producer - that is, in the same way as the songs themselves were written and rehearsed for concerts and as they came to life during several sessions in a small village nestled in the woods near Prague.
It is also where guitarist Jáchym Štětka composed a new song, its lyrics inspired by the atmosphere of that moment.
“Karlsbad” opens and closes with tracks named Karlsbad and Karlsbad II, which provide a glimpse into the protagonist’s youth in his home town of Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad) and pay homage to a place of inspiration.
Although the album retains a folksy nature, the electric guitar gains more prominence, as does Jáchym’s jazz feel and the more rock-like approach of bass player Vráťa Hubička, who used the double bass only very sparingly. Percussionist Marcel Jakubovie granted a bit of space on the record to his son Gabriel. Emphasis on dynamics is still evident, and “Karlsbad” also contains tracks with music made to compliment poetry, namely poems by Josef Václav Frič from 1858 and by contemporary poet Zita Malaníková.
The decision to tape a live album was made after last year’s recording of the EP album “Raw”, intended for the English-speaking market. “Raw” successfully aired, as did the previous album, “Ocean”, on most genre-related radio shows in the UK and also in Ireland, Canada, France, the Netherlands and Italy. A small-scale concert in London was a conclusion of the recording, and on 6 October 2018 Marek Dusil performed solo at the Leeds charity festival.
The new track Time to Time, first released on “Raw”, was re-recorded for the album “Karlsbad”.
The extensive album booklet was created by London-based photographer Lucas Ross and the Czech lyrics are supplemented with English translations. To see more of Lucas Ross’ art, go to www.lucasross.net.

“Karlsbad” was officially released on September 7, 2018. The album is distributed by Supraphon, which released it through all digital stores and streaming services. The album was released with the support of OSA - the Copyright Protection Association for Music Rights.
