Manou Gallo grooves just for the fun on afrobeat song or dreams of a place among the stars. The small girl of Divo was shocking the village people when she played the traditional drums, today she is the woman with a Drum. She looks after Marcelin Yassé, her mentor, her father, her talisman. “The belief in tradition mustn’t prevent you from going ahead” says Manou. And so she embraces the world.
After being a singer, bass player of Woya, Zap Mama and Tambours de Brazza, percussion player and dancer, Manou Gallo turned into a brilliant band leader since 10 years. She brings African music in a very inventive and modern way. The stage is like her second home and she pays a lot of attention to her live performance.
For the music, she has been inspired by the Djiboi (people of the Ivory Coast Manou's homeland), but also by her current western musical culture. The combination of soul, jazz, funk and blues is within the concept of groove a common denominator.
Last years, shed did collaborations with Wyclef Jean (Haiti/USA), Manu Dibango (Cameron), Lucas Van Merwijk (drums, The Netherlands), Ivan Mazuze (sax, Mozambique), Bernard Maseli (vibraphone, Poland), Queendom (vocals, Norway)…
Now she realizes her dream to perform with her own brass section with her new project « Manou Gallo Groove Orchestra ».
Alongside musicians with jazz and classical backgrounds, Manou is the maestro creating a festive show overflowing with joy, jazz, groove, funk and afro beat.
