Singer-Songwriter Mama Miriama kam 2006 erstmals nach Deutschland, um als Gitarristin, Geigerin und Sängerin mit dem Münchner Weltmusik-Ensemble Jobarteh Kunda aufzutreten. In der Wally Warning Roots Band und sein Gospel Trio hat sie ebenfalls gespielt. Tormenta Jobarteh und Wally Warning, sind als Gastmusiker auf ihrer neuen CD, Far and Wide, einer Sammlung von Reise- und Liebesliedern, zu hören.
Die Wurzeln ihrer Musik entwickelten sich durch ihre Reisen auf dem gesamten Globus. In den USA geboren, Miriama studierte sowohl in Indien (Chennai) mit der Welt bekannten Karnatic music family Narayanan, als auch in West Afrika (Gambia) mit der Welt berühmten Griot-Familie Jobarteh.
Zahlreiche Konzerte führten sie durch die USA und Mexiko, sie teilte Bühnen mit Musikern wie Jimmy Cliff, Michael Franti, Joan Armatrading, John Mayall, Phish, Laura Love Band, The Black Seeds und uvm.
Ihr eigenes musikalisches Konzept entwicklte sich dabei aus all den verschiedenen kulturellen Einflüssen. Ihre Musik hat keine kulturellen und musikalischen Grenzen.
Man könnte sie auch als “World Groove Jazz Blues Musik” bezeichnen.
Miriama solo und mit ihre Band nehmen die Zuhörer mit auf eine Reise rund um den Planeten und darüber hinaus. Mit Ihrer warmen Stimme und Ihre ursprüngliche Stil auf der Gitarre, Violine. und und Kora (die 22 saitege Afrikanische Harfe), komponiert sie Ihre Songs, die ihre Zuhörer im Herzen berühren.

Guitarist-Singer-Songwriter Mama Miriama has always been on the path of the musician/traveler. Her quest for music has brought her to five continents. Stints in India, West Africa, Europe and Mexico mixed with her lifelong love of good 'ol RocknRoll, American style, have imbued her with her unique instrumental and vocal style. Her solo and group performances showcase her multi-instrumental talents on guitar, violin, and vocals. Her own original songs are mixed in with reworkings of traditional tunes and chants from many sources, interpretations and translations of the songs of songwriters met worldwide and new renditions of select covers and jazzy standards. Mama Miriama Band´s music has no cultural or musical boundaries.
Over the years, Mama Miriama has appeared at Festivals, Theatres Clubs and events in USA, Mexico, Italy, Gambia, Senegal, France, Spain, Finland, India, and Germany sharing stage and bill with musicians such as Manu Dibango, Jimmy Cliff, Michael Franti, Joan Armatrading, John Mayall, Phish, Laura Love Band, Soig Sibiril, guru guru and many other great artists.
She has appeared onstage in Germany, Austria and and Italy at international festivals including Reggae Chiemsee Festival, Woodstock Dornstadt ,Afrika Tage Vienna, Sunsplash Austria, Tollwood München, the legendary Finkenbach Festival, Bardentreffen Festival Nürmberg, Zugluft Festival Tirol and many more.
“Far and Wide”, the new solo Album by Mama Miriama is a collection of original songs about travel, love and adventure on the road. In 2005 she relocated full time to Europe, working as sidewoman guitarist, violinist and singer with Aruban star Wally Warning, Tormenta Jobarteh´s multi cultural world music outfit Jobarteh Kunda and other projects in varied genres; reggae, jazz, blues, and folk. Both Wally and Tormenta are featured guests on the new album.
