Two Brazilians, two Portuguese.

Venus, the space beyond and not a single word. These abstract terms could define what Lisbon post-rock band All the Way to Venus is all about. However, it would still be a rather simplistic definition.

First EP “Four Steps of Entering, Descending and Landing/Crash” has been released one part at a time — just like a spacecraft entering into orbit. In all four parts, as well as in new songs that have been emerging during rehearsals, the constant conversations between instruments — along with samples and pre-recorded bases — are able to fill voids, highlighting the fact that silence is also a means of expression. With subtlety, the band is able to slowly build and deconstruct textures — in a modern manner, one that would surely make big names in the genre (Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky or Caspian, to name a few) proud.

The home-recorded EP was mixed and mastered at the Black Dog Audio studios in Helsinki, Finland.

And in all tracks, there is evidence that the band is indeed focused on not repeating itself: forging changes, creating atmospheres, while at the same time, keeping melodies instantly recognizable to the ears. Premiere single “The Edge” is structured in a crescendo, which invites the listener to virtually join the band, as if they were part of some road trip, climax and stops included. The second single “Thank You and Goodnight” is so visual that one couldn’t think of a more fitting video clip other than the one released, strong and heavy. Then, there’s “Adelia”, band's first song ever, and named after the cafe in the Lisbon neighborhood of Arroios, where they used to meet before rehearsals. Lastly, “Dogs are Made of Diamonds” is an almost nine-minute progression of sequences and a sensorial rollercoaster, with the addition of David Bowie's vocals.

This is a record where the influences of shoegaze, contemplative sounds, quasi-pop melodies, and experimentations travel together with extreme softness and syntony. With this record, All the Way to Venus plans to start making a name for themselves in the pantheon of instrumental rock in Portugal and — why not — the rest of the world.

Far from defining the band, but acting as a beautiful business card, “Four Steps of Entering, Descend and Landing/Crash” is what it is expected from a post-rock album, combined with melodies and ambiances that adds “something more” to the band style.

All the Way to Venus is formed by Luiz Alberto Moura (electric guitar and keyboards), Marcelo Caldas (electric bass), David Lopes (electric guitar and keyboards), and Ricardo Antunes (drums).
