Renditions of pop songs are seamlessly weaved in with noisy soundscapes and elaborate aural textures. KINETOPHONE also seeks to reinvigorate old films for new audiences – with their modern-day soundtracks these once silent films become audiovisual works to be experienced.
As of 2015, KINETOPHONE have solidified into a three-piece outfit. René Duursma (keys, guitars, samples, percussion, vocals), Thomas van den Berg (guitars, vocals, samples, percussion, keys) and Sebastiaan Wiering (cello, bass, keys, melodica, vocals) refine their craft with every project.
Since 2010 they have written and performed music to classic silent films such as Abel Gance’s epic “J'Accuse”, pioneering avant-garde shorts by Germaine Dulac and Aleksandr Dovzhenko’s “Arsenal”. For contemporary creatives they contributed music to documentary’s (“Making of Infoversum” & “De laatste boer van Euvelgunne" and audiovisual art projects (“Seacrets” & “Despot poetry”). Notable shows include festivals such as Ciné Premières, Noorderzon (Groningen, NL) Imagine Film Festival (Amsterdam, NL) and Spoiwa Kultury (Szczecin, PL).
