Chérie | Single | 2018 |
His musical journey started back in 2014, with the electronica/indie-rock band Vertigo formed in Chennai. Having played across India, notably in venues such as Fandom at Gilly's Redefined, The Humming Tree, Kappa TV, etc. he recently released his EP titled Chérie through Kobalt owned AWAL. He has also worked on movies such as Vidhi Madhi Ultaa (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) as a playback singer.
On his debut EP Chérie, Chennai-based Kevin Fernando takes influence from songwriters across history – Eric Clapton, John Mayer, Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars. His bubbling, club-friendly set of three tracks is even more accessible because these sensibilities are laid over electronic, acoustic guitar-fed melodies and hooks about love... From fairytale-esque scenarios (on the folksy “ Windy ") to making long-distance relationships last (“ Bittersweet ") and the idea of friendship building up to something more (the electro-pop, hook-filled “ There She Goes ”), Chérie has a straightforwardness that not many artists risk. - Rolling Stone India
A journey of love through the musician’s eyes, the 15-minute record begins with the song, Bittersweet that is filled with shimmery synths, syrupy vocals and features playback singer Pragathi Guruprasad. Track three, There She Goes takes us back to a time when Owl City's cheery electro-pop song Fireflies dominated pop charts nearly a decade back. – Indulge
