"A band leader of pugnacious flair and genuine unpredictability" (James Griffiths - The Guardian) The Janette Mason Trio play contemporary jazz with a strong groove and a cinematic texture.

The Trio's playing repertoire includes not only Janette's original compositions, but also unique takes on classic jazz, soul and pop tunes. The trio have two successful albums (including the Parliamentary Jazz Award nominated 'Alien Left Hand'). The intuitive style and musical expertise of Dudley Phillips (Bass) and Pat Levett (Drums) complement Janette's unique improvisational approach perfectly to create innovative, energetic and engaging live performances.

Janette (composer, arranger and pianist) uses her experience of playing in pop and rock bands (Oasis, Robert Wyatt), and of composing scores for film and television, to create a unique jazz sound.

Inspired by sources as broad as the compositional techniques of Pat Metheny, the simplicity of a well constructed pop song by the likes of The Carpenters, or the harmonic and melodic complexity of a Stravinsky score, Janette’s music transcends categorization. One audience member once tried, describing her music as 'Bartok meets Funk.'

"For all her familiarity with the commercial mainstream, Mason can't do anything obvious or un-hip" (John Fordham - The Guardian)

The Janette Mason Trio was formed by Janette Mason in 2000 as an outlet for her contemporary jazz compositions. The Trio are a regular sight on the UK jazz scene, playing venues such as Ronnie Scotts and 606 Club Chelsea. They are keen to explore opportunities across Europe and to enjoy any collaborations or influences that may appear on their travels.
