Obviously fate was playing games that day because Philip took a shine to the guitar from that moment on and it became part of his life.
He started playing stages in his native Birmingham when he was 15 and began writing his first songs. Soon he was being asked to join bands and eventually formed his own original group, experimenting with guitar sounds and expanding his skills. In the early days, Philip played the O2 Academy Birmingham and Glastonbudget Festival among other venues.
Excited to learn different styles, in 2013 he left England for a voyage of musical self-discovery across America, spending several months on the road. By the time he arrived in Chicago he decided he'd gone full circle and inspired by his trek, he returned to the midlands to start a new band concentrating on creating their own kind of music.
James and The Electrics provides a vehicle for Philip’s creativity and musical experiments, calling on the wider musicianship of his blues and rock backgrounds, expanding them with a complex mixture of other styles. With this platform he’s been able to write freely to give the band a unique and distinctive sound which combines melody, techique and versatility.
