Manchester poet and hip-hop artist J Chambers returns with his EP ‘ Escape The Kingdom’ .

An exploration of being Black and British within contemporary English Culture, out on 26th
February.

The next single ‘Sirens’ drops on 12th February and is a reggae driven production with a fiery
flow. It plays on the dual meaning of the word siren, both as a metaphorical soundtrack to the
oppression of Black Britons and, mythologically speaking, as a source of distraction preventing
progress being made. ‘Duppy Dub’ , follows and is a no holds barred freestyle that addresses
the stress of being an independent artist, determined to have a positive impact both locally and
globally.

2020 proved to be a pivotal time for J Chambers, who is cementing himself as one of the most
important voices in the UK hip hop scene. His politically charged single ‘Kill The Noise’ , was
released in response to the Black Lives Matter protests, securing plaudits from Riddim
Magazine , Eamilk , PRS in M-Magazine , and plays on Heartless Crew ’s BBC 1Xtra show. As
a consequence, J was commissioned by the BBC to write and perform a moving spoken word
poetry piece to open up Blue Peter ’s Black History Month celebration. “I wanted to write
something I thought would resonate with young children” he states discussing the project.

With lyrics of redemption, Black liberation, freedom and equality J Chambers explores the
challenges of understanding culture and celebration of identity on ‘Escape The Kingdom’.
