“If you’re a fan of The Smiths and The Coral at their most melodic, then this may be right up your street.” THE GUARDIAN “Soulful Indie goodness.” SHORTLIST “An intoxicating take on indie songcraft… kitchen-sink melancholy with a sweeping glamour” CLASH Hailing from the Sheffield ‘burbs of Handsworth, High Hazels move when the time is right.

Breaking out from the bricks and mortar of their Kelham Island rehearsal space, two packed-out shows at their hometown’s 2017 Tramlines festival saw the four-piece unleash their sumptuous melodies; debuting eagerly-anticipated brand-new music and an updated line-up.

Stripped-back acoustic sets for Spinning Discs’ 10th Record Store Day celebrations, a performance for Sofar Sounds and shows in October further hinted at what High Hazels have had nestling in their rolled-up sleeves; new songs and an enchanting cover of Jim Croce’s ‘I Got A Name’ nods to a deeper, exploratory direction that draws on the sounds of their heroes Nick Cave, The Walkmen, Tim Buckley and The Velvet Underground, often heard when the band bring their Studio Electrophonique DJ residency to drinkers across Sheffield’s watering holes.

Treating listeners to the 'Weak Sun EP' in February, singles ‘Joined at The Lip’ and ‘Sequin Eyes’ received radio support from BBC 6music’s Steve Lamacq and the latter held the top spot on Amazing Radio’s chart as the station’s longest running Number 1 of 2017 (13 weeks), leading to the band being invited to host their own takeover show.

Possessing a passion for vintage gear (never mind affording the bus ride home), High Hazels’ medicine of minor chords sound out the depths of the loneliest heart whilst a lyrical honesty combines the Greenwich Village folkie’s strident tones with the plaintive notes of the jukebox balladeer.

With a new single due for release in February, Spring shows and album in the works, 2018 is all set to see the Hazels reach heights even higher.
