Free-spirited guitarist Sarah Negahdari initially met bassist Charlie Mahoney at a Los Angeles strip mall where she was reading tarot cards. He’d just arrived from Washington, DC, to pursue a PhD at UCLA. The two clicked as friends and years later they’ve toured across the US, Japan, Canada, and the UK and become a beloved staple of Los Angeles’ underground music scene.
Negahdari has earned a reputation as a commanding front-woman, wowing audiences with her blistering guitar playing and charming them with her earnest, expressive, and emotive energy. Her soaring vocals often explore topics of redemption, triumph, loss, and freedom.
Over the years, Happy Hollows' sound has evolved from wild garage-rock to a more refined post-punk sound that employs analog synth melodies, angular guitars, and polyrhythmic drumming. The addition of Belfast-born guitarist Scott Munro and drummer Glenn Fryatt over the past year have pushed the group's sonic ethos forward.
