GYPSKAZZ is an excitng project, fusing Gypsy Jazz and Ska with Balkan, Arabic, Reggae, Rock and LaKn influences.

Think of an infecKous rhythm, a danceable groove, and Gypskazz have it covered!
Band leader and creator of GYPSKAZZ, MelZebra's sax blends raunchy and exoKc with a real jazz sensibility, and shows her wealth of experience playing from Edinburgh to Egypt, including some of London's best jazz venues. Singer, Bill Redfern brings a riotous union of cabaret and punk bravura to his vocal and ukulele style, as befits his background in punk bands championed by John Peel and in stand-‐up comedy. Accordionist, Andrew Hedges, when not off being a busy composer, theatre MD and band leader, expertly blends the flavours of Paris and Rio into the Gypskazz pot. Guitarist, David Reay, loves any excuse to mix up jazz, folk, blues, rock and metal styles, and gets the chance to Kck every box in this magpie line-‐up. Bassist, Mateus Gocek brings the authenKc touch of Eastern Europe to the band’s gypsy Russian and Balkan offerings, but he’s equally at home when jazz and ska are on the menu. King of the Gypskazz rhythm is drummer, Simon Bridgestock who combines technical excellence with a wit and gusto that perfectly power up the band’s party spirit.
In their first year, they've picked up some notable fesKval and club successes (Small World Solar Stage, Broadstairs Folk FesKval, Kent Beer FesKval), and their first album, the self-‐Ktled "GYPSKAZZ" received its launch in March 2015. If features mostly original composiKons by band members, together with some of their most popular covers. Referencing everyone from Beethoven to Charlie Parker, Django Reinhardt to Bad Manners and Gogol Bordello, this is party music with a knowing wink, a sort of ska noir, taking in the waltz, the tango and the Balkan drinking song on its travels.
