For this “league of nations” is GREENFIRE, a potent lineup of UK Melodic Prog Rock. And when it comes to the brand of music they bring, make no mistake…it is serious business.
Having been in variations of the same band since meeting after university, JOHN HARLAND and MARK DESTAEDTLER created Greenfire in 2005 after they realized that female vocals would add a nuance that would spark the project (previously UIIF/ UNDER TWO FLAGS). The result was a new direction—and with that, the musical bias towards the male perspective would need a complete makeover.
After a few band revisions, the current lineup evolved to include OTO SUKOVSKY on bass and vocalist JULIE HAWKINS rounding off the lineup, providing an extension to the already intricate musical landscape. Their distinctive self-styled “Posh Rock” drove this new sound to the one that defines today’s Greenfire; one that is uniquely identifiable.
Greenfire brings an eclectic mashup of musical genres with songwriting that is both emotional and temperamental—influenced by the classical grounding of DeStaedtler on guitar, the provoking and often angst ridden vocals of Hawkins, the Jazz/Funk-infused basslines of Sukovsky and the thunderous drums of Harland. Together, Greenfire has emerged as a life force that is ready for the world; and poised to not only discover new possibilities in their playing through a variety of musical styles and collective musical knowledge—but also determined to keep "Spreading the Fire".
