For Morrissey and Marr it was a simple knock on the door and a question of ‘Do you wanna write some songs?’.

For Manchester’s False Nines, the key players were brought together by something much more modern.

The power of Twitter – and a mutual love of Field Music – provided the spark of a songwriting prowess that has already caught the attention of influential music fans nationwide.

Living five minutes apart without knowing each other, in England’s most musical city, guitarist George and singer Aaron were brought together after Field Music assisted the former’s search for a frontman via the aforementioned social network. Fuelled by fine ales and an immediate musical affinity, plans were made almost immediately. The line up was then completed by a rhythm section made up entirely of people called Jake, songs were written, demos were recorded, and the results fell into the hands of BBC 6 Music’s Marc Riley. Before they knew it False Nines were played regularly on his evening show and featured on his Best of The Year Show in late December 2014.

The band have gone on to play a number of live gigs around the Manchester area supporting the likes of Mercury Music Prize 2015 nominee C Duncan and cult favourites The Wave Pictures.

After a spell in the atmospheric EVE Studios in Stockport with producer Iain Gore (Brakes, Larrikin Love), the band are now ready to unleash their debut single ‘Can’t Afford To Wonder’, an infectiously energetic slice of indie-pop boosted by a swoopingly harmonic middle-eight and a rambunctious driving rhythm.

Not only that, but the band have captured the energy and effervescence of the track in their charmingly DIY video, captured on the hoof in living rooms, practice rooms and a Toyota Yaris in a Stockport car park - on a budget pushing almost £12.

The single ‘Can’t Afford To Wonder’ is released on LDN Recordings on Friday 27th November – and False Nines are hosting a launch party at Manchester's iconic Castle Hotel venue on Thursday 26th November. There Will Be Cake!
