How to promote an event with Facebook Ads

So before you can get started with Facebook ads, you need a private user account – or you could use the Business Manager function so that more people have access to it.

Pick your options

Think carefully about what you’d like to advertise, and how you’d like to do it:

Promote page

If you want to get yourself more followers and expand your reach, that’s the option you should go for. Why? For example, if you haven’t yet set up a website for your event, the „promote page“ function allows you to advertise your Facebook page to a specific target group. If you already have a specific event page, and you just want to sell more tickets, then try to get more traffic on to your page.

Promote event page

This option is useful when you’ve already set up a page for your event. That’s the only time the promotion is worth it. With this option, you can advertise your website to a specific target group. For example, you can create a slideshow advert, which will showcase all the important things you want to share in one carousel-format ad.

Promote post

This strategy lets you pay for your Facebook post to appear more often in newsfeeds. It doesn’t matter if it is a video, a text, a picture, or anything else. With the right headline, you can expand your reach significantly.


If you’d like to advertise something specific, or would like to have more complex options when it comes to your target group, then ads are the best option for you.

Once you’ve decided on a format, you also need to decide what your target group is. You can filter based on age, gender, location and interests. You can also decide on the basis of specific user behaviours, or decide on a Custom Audience (this option shows your ads to specific persons).
