It is May of the year 2008.

The four then-youngsters get together to have their first rehearsal at the private lake in the town of Neudörfl in beautiful Burgenland.

The following summer the first attempts at songwriting are made and recorded in the rehearsal room in the bassist’s basement. Numerous contests and small concerts follow and eventually win them the hearts of their first fans.

The first whiff of success would come two years later: At the Red Bull rockt den Brandwagen band contest the Empty Flags not only enthrall their audience in the preliminary round but come out on top at the finals, winning them a handsome amount of money as well as contacts in the music industry, which launch them onto the Red Bull Brandwagen Stage at the Nova Rock Festival 2011. The likes on Facebook continue to rise, as does the number of fans, but what seems like the highest point in their musical career is only the beginning. Aside from recording several songs with the Viennese recording studio Left Side Records in the spring of 2012, the band applies for the ORF’s casting show Die Große Chance. This decision quite literally turns out to be the boys‘ big opportunity after they sing, play and charm their way through three preliminary rounds with assistance from producer Thomas Rabitsch.

Although they do not win the contest, but their time in the public eye has given them a motivational and promotional boost to this very day. Spring of 2013 is packed with concerts, summer with pondering over the question their first ever professional recording. After much deliberation, the team of the Viennese studio Gosh Audio is chosen, where they begin recording an EP-like project under direction of Stefan Kolber. And so the last summer was spent in the studio and the rehearsal room, where they worked on their brand new songs. After a photo-shoot in the fall of 2014 and a music video, fans of the Empty Flags eagerly wait for more.
