Edith Violet Short Info

Every now and then, a talent pops on to the radar with a stage presence so gripping that the atmosphere in the room noticeably changes in their presence. This is certainly the case for Edith Violet, a London based band, carving out quite a name for themselves.

When Edith Violet take to the stage and launch into their first number, even the most nonchalant and pokerfaced of observers is engrossed from the outset. Perhaps this is as a result of the band’s front-woman and namesake’s compelling voice. Powerful and passionate in its tone with hints of Florence Welch and splashes of Laura Marling thrown in for good measure, Violet has the kind of voice that resonates in your head long since her set has come to its conclusion. Maybe it’s her thought-provoking lyrics that have the crowd so absorbed; Violet’s knack for crafting clever little narratives that instantly get the mind ticking portray an artist with a genuine passion for song-writing. Of course, it could be down to the band’s innovative sound, which features a delicate blend of folk, indie, soul and blues in equal balance.

Edith Violet have come a long way since late 2013, when the project was conceived after a series of auditions, forming the collective - which on occasion can mount to an outstanding 7-piece including strings. Performances at venues notorious for their musical scene like Proud Camden, The Slaughtered Lamb and XOYO drew acclaim from both returning fans and revellers taking in an Edith Violet performance for the first time. The band also have a support-slot for folk / rock outfit To Kill A King at the esteemed New Slang Kingston under their belt to complete an impressive portfolio of live shows.

A quick inspection of lead singer Edith’s inspirations reveal a lot about her character. She admires the multiple award-winning Laura Marling for shunning the limelight and focusing solely on delivering her music, loves the huge orchestral sound and all-round spectacle of a Florence + the Machine show, and looks at Freddie Mercury’s command of the stage in awe. Clearly, Violet is a genuinely passionate musician striving to enjoy the experience of being a musician as opposed to chasing the gaze of the public eye. In a contemporary climate awash with artists seemingly driven by style over substance, Violet is a refreshing break from the norm.

So what now for this emerging talent? Edith Violet hope to have an EP released before the Spring of 2015. More long term, as a steadily growing fan-base continues to swell and a collection of exciting gigs are continually added to the bill, a fully-fledged studio album is definitely on the cards.
