Dumb Angel | Album | 2019 |
On November 2, they will issue on vinyl for the first time ever their sun-kissed 2015 opus Broken Glass. Harmonies for days, born on bright waves and drifting far from shore, the band is “the sweet spot between Spiritualized and Mojave 3”, or what would happen “if Dennis Wilson jammed with Wish You Were Here-era Pink Floyd”. Dumb Angel opens the windows wide and steps into that breeze.
Recorded and produced by S.J. Kardash (Shooting Guns, Sheepdogs, The Deep Dark Woods), Broken Glass continues the group’s evolution from the sparse and raw singer-songwriter approach of their earlier work to the vibrant and mesmerizing full-band colossus that is present day Dumb Angel. Mason’s luminous, meditative songs are elevated to kaleidoscopic new heights by stacks of lush vocal harmonies, cosmic, quicksilver pedal steel guitar, and hypnotically layered acoustic and electric guitars. Fans new and old can now lose themselves in Dumb Angel’s singular, sprawling, and dazed world of sound with this very limited edition 45 rpm double vinyl pressing. The band will be touring Canada, the UK and EU throughout fall 2018 in support of the vinyl issue of Broken Glass.
RIYL: The Verve, Echo & The Bunnymen, John Martyn, Jonathan Wilson.
"Fans of Mojave 3 and Spiritualized at their most joyous may want to take note." - The Line of Best Fit
“On his latest album Shaun Mason fully inhabits sun-kissed psychedelic pop that meanders yet never loses its purpose. Dumb Angel has always leaned heavily on heavenly vocal harmonies, and on “Wanted, Needed, Loved” – the first offering from the forthcoming Broken Glass – Mason manages to weave a complicated web of harmony that is blissful and poignant and still somehow manages to squeeze in a lil’ bit of fist-pumping rock goodness in as well.” - Ominocity
“We recently came across his new single Sometimes When I’m Alone via Clamour Records and we can’t seem to take this sucker off repeat.” - THE iNDiE MACHiNE
“Recorded and co-produced by S.J. Kardash (the Deep Dark Woods, The Sheepdogs, Reignwolf) … (Broken Glass) … continues his evolution from stripped-down singer-songwriter to band leader, as the soundscape features harmonies, pedal steel, keys, percussion and layered guitars (and) resembles what it would sound like if Dennis Wilson jammed with Wish You Were Here-era Pink Floyd.” - Exclaim.ca
"(A) work of folky acoustica with occasional pop and rock elements - and a hint of spacey psychedelia … a really good album with much to explore and much to recommend."
- Terrascope, on Eight Moments of Spring
“Dumb Angel was always good --- but he’s really found his moment in time, well, eight of them really, with this album. It’s not only one of the best recent albums of its kind, but also one of the best albums I’ve heard this year.” - Planet S, on Eight Moments of Spring
“A collection of beautiful folk songs.” - Bloody Underrated, on Eight Moments of Spring
“On his third full-length, Mason revisits his usual spaced-out folk muse, but adds a welcome layer of dynamics and musicianship.” - Ominocity, on Eight Moments of Spring
“This lovely and haunting 70s-tinged album…recalls everything from the Velvet Underground's third to Mazzy Star's first." - New Canadian Music, on Eight Moments of Spring
