Deco Pilot formed in 2010 when a group of young and musically-inclined friends decided to join forces to write and record their first EP titled Southern Eyes with number of upbeat, melodic songs that expressed a shared love for atmospheric pop, classic rock and catchy rhythms with a synth-infused glisten.
Following a year of rehearsals in a make-shift studio/flat in London, the band had enough material to record and release their second EP This City.
Deco Pilot originally formed in Liverpool at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA), a school generously funded by Beatles’ legend Paul McCartney. It was at LIPA where Mexican-born brothers, Jose (lead vocals) and Juan Lopez Portillo (lead guitar, backing vocals), met fellow Mexican-born keyboardist Giancarlo Bonfanti. The trio hit it off famously and were soon recording their own songs. Not long after their convergence, Swedish bassist John Franklin, who was studying music in London, joined the band. Only weeks after jamming together and channeling their energías to formulate their distinct sound, the band members, all in their early twenties, officially formed Deco Pilot.
Late in 2011, the internationally staffed band set out on a tour across Mexico, and soon after, played a number of well-received gigs in Paris. In the springtime of 2012, having refines their sound by leaps and bounds and adapted to the important lessons of live performance, Deco Pilot were being invited to play alongside bands like The Milk and The Futureheads at the Brownstock Music Festival in Essex, and at Bath’s International Music Festival‘s Party in the City, respectively.
In 2013, the band’s growing popularity opened the doors to collaboration with directors Steve Glashier (who has previously worked with Juliette Lewis and Fatboy Slim) on the making of a music video for Deco Pilot’s signatura song, “You Know What I’m Looking For” and Vibol Moung directing their first acoustic session of This City.
In 2014 the band moved to Barcelona where the original line up changed, welcoming the Hungarian bassist Daniel Cizmar and Catalan drummer Pol Galadies introducing once more international influencies to the project.
Their well received single ‘’Hold Your Fire’’ opened the doors of the main music scene in town, where they have been sharing performances with international and local acclaimed bands such as The Boxer Rebellion,Jeremy Loops, LA and Macaco.
The band have been awarded with the first price of the contest LIVE 2015 celebrated at Luz de Gas and sponsored by the Generalitat of Cataluña, Estrella Damm and the radio station Cadena 100 giving the band direct access to the mayor Festivity of Barcelona LA MERCE 2015 at the main stage in Plaza España.
As well Deco Pilot won the competitions Resa Rock which took place in Sala Apolo and the 14th edition of the live music contest of Sarria’s mayor local festivity.
The band released their debut LP “Midnight Glory” in june 2016.
