A master in the art of steering sequences and synthesizers, Tebbs began cutting her teeth on the spin table at the end of the 90’s during prestigious events in Europe, the United States and Canada.
Throughout the years, Tebbs has become one of the most sought-after artists in the field of Canadian electronic music. After releasing the Step that Shit (2006) EP and creating various successful album compilations including House Factory (2009) and Night Culture (2009), the producer was named “Female Electronic Artist of the Year” during the 2009 Montreal DJ Awards. After releasing these albums, Tebbs set out on an important Canadian tour, attracting wide media attention after earning much praise from the industry and the public.
In 2010, Tebbs underwent a major artistic shift. At the head of her own Cliché Musique (D.E.P./Universal Music Canada) label company, she focused on developing the new administrative side of her career. From the get-go, she prioritized many studio projects as a composer and producer, a move that would lead the way to various collaborative projects with Misteur Valaire & Bran Van 3000, The Easton Ellises, Eric Speed, Eleven:Eleven and many more. While carrying out these rigorous initiatives, Tebbs developed a brand new production that she brilliantly took to the stage 2 years later.
In 2012, Tebbs finally released Modern Talking, her fifth album to hit stores - but her first as a singer, songwriter and composer. The album was launched on October 23, 2012 before a curious crowd eager to discover the artist's new artistic approach. It conquered the public and broadcasters right away and propelled Tebbs toward a new market, along with a trimphant tour in 2012 and 2014.
With this album, Debbie Tebbs showcases a compelling stage presence and a captivating voice that has taken many by surprise. Modern Talking presents 12 studio tracks that embody the perfect synergy between dance floor beats, catchy melodies and an instrumental universe of acoustic and analog sounds. Many artists, including singer Marie-Luce Béland (Miss Bionic), as well as Norbert Dolbec (DJ Nerve) (Me in the Screen), DJ Omni (Your Mom is a DJ) and violinist Eric Speed (Universal Serial Blood and Triumph), join Tebbs on the album. Modern Talking’s acclaimed masterpiece, Turbo Love, resulted in a music video in 2013.
Praised for its blend of new catchy sounds and 80’s flair, Modern Talking has allowed Tebbs to penetrate the synchronization and TV broadcasting market. The Stage Fright and Don’t Believe the Hype tracks are featured in the Snowboard Ride Shakedown documentary, which follows Olympic athlete Sébastien Toutant during the 2014 Sochi Games. The documentary was broadcasted on TVA Sports. Additionally, the Universal Serial Blood track is being used by Nissan Canada as part of a publicity campaign. In 2014, the producer signed an important contract in Japan, which allows her to be regularly broadcast throughout large commercial chains across Asia.
However, it is on stage that the brilliant performer’s music and personality take on full significance. A talented multi-instrumentalist, Tebbs displays finesse and endless energy as she single-handedly masters synthesizer solos, percussions, vocal harmonies and sequencers.
Greatly influenced by the musical and theatrical universe of groups such as Daft Punk, Depeche Mode and Ladytron, Tebbs focuses on an authentic stage production showcasing talented instrumentalists. Her goal is to visually and audibly capture her audience through entrancing electronic music and an enthralling stage universe.
Her show has drawn great attention during recent performances at Montréal’s Club Soda and Olympia and on many festivals. Her artistic approach, attention to detail and thought-out visual identity have also allowed her to share the stage with artists such as Radio Radio, Misteur Valaire, Dead Obies, VioleTT Pi, Daft Punk Tribute and Footprintz.
Backed by a daring production, Debbie Tebbs and her musicians offer a remarkable performance that combines nostalgia and technology. In partnership with Eski (PixMob)’s visual technology development studios, the musician transports the audience to a magical and innovative universe filled with a powerful visual structure that never fails to impress.
Praised for her impressive stage performance and unique signature, Debbie Tebbs has earned an enviable position among the broadcasters, the media and the public’s favorite 2013 artists.
