Combining the classic sound of 80’s hardcore with more modern influences in the vein of modern metalcore, the band has arrived at an original sound encapsulated in the recently released Coup De Grace.
After a couple of early demo releases their debut single Midnight Oil was released in 2015 that showcases the bands earlier, brasher sound. This period of time consisted of a busy gigging schedule both in their hometown of Manchester as well as further afield. This period saw Dead Retinas playing shows with the likes of The Hell, Creepshow, and now-defunct local talent Halfling’s Leaf.
During the period of writing and recording for Coup De Grace, line-up changes resulted in the move of CJ from Bass to lead vocalist, bringing with it a stylistic change that would greatly influence the direction of the current material. Chris Heath was recruited as drummer, and Chris Gaduzo filled the position of bass player, allowing CJ to focus fully on frontman duties.
In order to accompany the release of Coup De Grace, 2017 has seen Dead Retinas once again play frequently, after a period of recording and searching for new members. The debut of the current line-up has played at a variety of local events with underground bands such as This is Wreckage (fresh off support slots with The Membranes) and Under, to support slots with Canadian punk legends D.O.A. November will see Dead Retinas support Holy Roar signing Employed to Serve, while focusing on writing material for a future release.
