From a live review: "Catself's style is quite different from the rest in the genre.

No love songs or (love) sadness and other clichés, but songs about nature, dreams, mermaids, hitchhiking in Spain, fishing and fishermen, drunken Finns, runaway cats, hit deer, bunnies struck by the lightning and the Apocalypse. All this accompanied by herself on guitar, which was for the second set exchanged for a piano. Although it wasn't the easiest music, she kept the audience breathless and captivated till the end."
Yvo Broekhoven, music programmer and promoter at Pekelpop, The Netherlands

Review:

"In a world of sound-alike music, Catself is producing unique songs that don't always go where you might expect, and that's a very good thing. The fact she can do so with the result being memorable and capable of repeated listening is the sign of a rare talent."
Michael Hunter, music journalist and radio host, Adelaide, Australia

Catself is remembered by her audiences for her unusual but catchy melodies, poetic and clever lyrics and the fairytale atmosphere she creates. Her songs move between genres, moods and themes. Next to fairytales and other literature, Catself's biggest inspiration is the natural world with all its perfect creatures, plants and falling asteroids.

Catself started gaining an international following in autumn 2008, when she posted her first home studio recordings online. In a matter of months they started being played in various radio programmes, including BBC Introducing with Tom Robinson, a number of new music programmes in The Netherlands and a folk music programme in Australia. In early 2009, Catself received an invitation to perform at a youth festival in Morocco after the organisers, who were looking for a Finnish artist to represent Finland at their festival to celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, found her music online. Catself performed at The Sun Festival for an audience of about 4000. During the same year, Catself was interviewed for the Swedish-speaking youth-oriented channel of Finnish National Radio, Radio X3M, and a 45-min documentary about her start in music was made for the Finnish Swedish-speaking TV channel YLE FST5.

Catself ran a successful album fundraising campaign online - in 2011 she raised 40 000 € for her debut, becoming the first Finnish artist to succeed at crowdfunding. Catself invited an iconic Polish folk band, Saint Nicholas Orchestra, to accompany her on the album. The work on the album, recorded in Poland in Preisner Studio, was completed in early 2013 but problems with the crowdfunding company and its bankruptcy, while they still owed Catself a large part of her funds, has been delaying the album's release. Catself is looking for an independent label to work with and hopes to release her debut in 2017.

Catself tours regularly, mostly in The Netherlands, where she so far has the most fans thanks to the album fundraising. She has performed at several independent and art- and nature-themed festivals in The Netherlands as well as a few dozen music clubs and acoustic venues. In Finland, she was one of the headlining acts at Faces Etnofestival and has played at a number of clubs and pubs in Helsinki and other cities. In Poland, she has perfomed at Mikołajki Folkowe festival in Lublin, Poland's oldest and largest folk festival, accompanied by Saint Nicholas Orchestra, and at several venues. She has opened for Polish/German award-winning artist Julia Marcell in Poznan, Poland, and toured with her in Finland. She regularly shares the stage with the Dutch pop-noir band Chabliz. In 2014, Catself did her first tour of the UK and performed in Norwich, York, Liverpool, Edinburgh and Swansea, everywhere receiving an enthusiastic response. She also played an unexpected guest slot at Fishguard Folk Festival, to which the audience responded with a massive applause. Encouraged by such a warm response to her songs, in spring 2015 Catself did her second UK tour, performing (three sets) at The Great Escape Festival in Brighton as well as in London, Hereford, High Wycombe and Glasgow. In spring/summer season of 2016 Catself performed a variety of shows in England and The Netherlands, from metal nights and punk festivals to art gallery recitals. She also performed at Playtime Festival, which is the biggest music festival in Mongolia.

In November 2015 Catself released the first music video with a song from the upcoming album. Her latest song "Little" (which will not be on the album) has been receiving airplay in acoustic, alternative and folk radio shows.
